What You’ll Be Doing

 

  • Analyses requirements and designs to understand how data is used, manipulated and processed.
  • Experience of data modelling, particularly in the context of a system that stores data primarily using relational databases.
  • Strong SQL skills, prior experience with PostgreSQL is particularly beneficial. Ability to code in Python and/or Java.
  • Experience with any of Elastic Search/Open Search, AWS data storage technologies and Apache Kafka would be highly desirable.
  • Uses appropriate software development tools: e.g. version control, CI pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standard disciplines and best practices.

 

Skills & Experience:

 

  • Is able to understand, review, contribute to or construct data models and designs, and is capable of building code in line with designs
  • Is aware of data compliance and legal considerations around storage and analysis of data, e.g. data protection, security and privacy
  • Considers the maintainability of the code they are developing
  • Continually increases knowledge and experience of languages, frameworks, technical concepts and methods
  • Continually increases knowledge and experience of the data domain
  • Uses appropriate data development methods, languages, libraries and techniques and applies these to development tasks to achieve the most effective outcome
  • Ensures that high quality and delivery standards are met and consistently delivers quality code on time and within estimates, including acceptable unit test coverage
  • Is able to review the code of others and provide constructive feedback
  • Has an understanding of other areas of the development lifecycle, e.g. test and support
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of project/sprint plans and endeavours to estimate accurately
  • Is able to work as part of a development team, collaborating with other team members and participates in technical discussions and conversations with customers
  • Treats team members and colleagues with respect, encouraging and motivating others
  • Demonstrates the ability to reflect on and improve personal performance
  • Upholds our reputation with clients by displaying professional behaviours in all circumstances

All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
