Job Description

Thames Water is leading the water sectors journey to become a fully data-enabled and digitally connected. Driving innovation, integration, and process optimisation across the sector, ensuring that people, data, and technology work together to deliver measurable outcomes.

As an effective Senior Data Analyst you will manage data and information within the Thames Water Framework and relevant projects. It will involve compiling, cleaning and transforming data from multiple raw sources into clearly presented and efficient visualisations, ensuring stakeholder engagement. support structured analysis and input into effective decision making. You will develop Power BI reports and dashboards and help create, engage and support a data-driven culture across the project by building trust in quality project data. A part of this role it to provide constructive improvements whilst meeting the reporting needs of the project.

This will be a 12 months contract.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To enforce the project progress reporting cycle in respect of Data Collection, Validation, Reporting and Analysis.
  • Build and continuously improve information visualisation on Power BI dashboards and tabular reports to ensure different audiences are presented with intelligence.
  • To liaise with the Senior Leadership Team and Management Team to collate, assure and publish the weekly and month-end Progress Report.
  • To support the Senior Leadership Team and Management Teams with ad-hoc reports and analysis as required.
  • To work with the senior leadership in developing the performance maturity framework mapping all the discipline performance indicators to objectives and ensuring performance measurement is reliable and compliant to specification.
  • To help develop and document a project data-model (data dictionary, taxonomy and ontology) to support the project team with self-service.
  • Contribute pro-actively as a member of key working groups within Costain to represent the project, share best practice and drive continuous improvement.

Essential

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience as a data analyst
  • Proven experience in leading data analysis within transformation, change, or operational improvement programmes.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align insights with transformation goals
  • Strong proficiency in BI tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau), SQL, Excel, and Python or R
  • Ability to coach others to translate complex data into actionable insights for diverse audiences
  • Experience in defining and tracking KPIs and performance metrics
  • Experience of taking key roles in data governance, privacy, and compliance principles
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills across business and technical domains
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to data integrity and accuracy
  • Collaborative and responsive, able to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent communicator, capable of tailoring outputs for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proactive in promoting data literacy and enabling self-service analytics
  • Adaptable and resilient in fast-paced, change-driven environments
  • Experience in construction, technology, or regulated sectors
  • Exposure to tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or MS Project

Desirable

  • Familiarity with programme and project management environments
  • Experience with metadata management, data cataloging, and lineage tracking
  • Professional certifications in BI, data analysis, or data governance

Costain are working with Thames Water on a variety of water and wastewater projects and have fantastic opportunities for individuals to join our growing AMP7 delivery team, working predominantly across the Thames Valley and Thames South regions. There is a mix of projects ranging from smaller capital maintenance to large civil new build schemes.
