Overview

The role collects, organises and studies data using tools and techniques for data analysis and data visualisation to provide actionable business insights. The role identifies, collects and migrates data to and from a range of systems for business information purposes. The role manages, cleans, abstracts and aggregates data in order to perform a range of analytical studies on that data, presenting data, insights and conclusions in the most appropriate format for users. The role will support the delivery of value from data for the ICO and its stakeholders such as individuals, businesses, public and third sector organisations. The role will create insights from ICO and third‑party data to drive business decision‑making, using a range of analysis and visualisation tools. The role will create data products from initial request through to delivery, ensuring clear objectives, timelines, and stakeholder engagement throughout the product development lifecycle. The role will ensure data is checked for sufficient quality, feed issues back, prototype reports, develop productionised solutions, follow best practices for statistical accuracy, ethics and accessibility, complete DPIAs, and provide technical support for data analysis products and services.


Responsibilities

  • Create insights from ICO and third‑party data to drive business decision‑making, using a range of analysis and visualisation tools.
  • Create data products from initial request through to delivery, ensuring clear objectives, timelines, and stakeholder engagement throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Ensure that data is checked for sufficient quality, feeding issues back to the appropriate teams.
  • Prototype reports and develop productionised solutions.
  • Ensure that data insights follow best practices for statistical accuracy, ethics and accessibility.
  • Ensure that the appropriate Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs) are completed prior to the execution of new data analytics use cases.
  • Provide appropriate technical support for data analysis products and services for incident and problem resolution.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience relevant to the role requirements, accumulated through a combination of academic or vocational qualifications or work experience.
  • Experience creating data analytics reports, dashboards and visualisations in support of a wide range of contexts and use cases.
  • Advanced experience developing, optimising and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports, including DAX, Power Query and data modelling.
  • Experience using data analytics technologies both on‑premise and cloud‑based.
  • Proven experience creating data products end‑to‑end, including requirements gathering, planning, execution, monitoring and delivery.
  • Experience applying data governance and data protection principles to analytics.

Essential Criteria assessed during interview

  • Knowledge of statistical methodologies and data analysis techniques, selecting the right approach to create meaningful and actionable insights.
  • Staying informed of industry developments to make cost‑effective use of new and emerging tools and technologies.
  • Knowledge of the public sector and regulatory environment, or a clear appreciation of its specific complexities and influences on the role.
  • Knowledge of the data protection and privacy landscape, regulations and obligations for data practitioners.
  • Ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity, creative problem‑solving and developing innovative solutions.
  • Understanding of the wider DDaT profession and practices and their relationship with data, and experience delivering using adaptive methodologies such as Agile.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and engage stakeholders at all levels, translating complex data insights into actionable recommendations for both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Location & Working

Contracted to our Wilmslow, London, Edinburgh, Cardiff or Belfast office, we offer flexible home and office‑based working opportunities. There will be times when you will be expected to attend the office to collaborate with colleagues or travel due to business need. Please note, from Autumn 2026 our head office will relocate from Wilmslow to Manchester city centre.
