Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Analyst to join Verisk Maplecroft’s Data and Analytics Team. In this role, you will play a key role in the maintenance, development, and enhancement of our Global Risk Data which assess political, human rights, environment, climate, and economic risks. It is Maplecroft’s core offering and helps our clients to make data-driven decisions about how to best manage the range of external risks they face. You will combine strong data, analysis, and research skills with an awareness of global issues to drive the evolution of our data products to maximise their relevance, quality, and commercial potential. You will have the opportunity for innovation by automating and streamlining processes, participating in idea hackathons with other parts of the business and developing new data products and risk intelligence solutions for our corporate, investor, and insurance clients. This is a hybrid role, based in London, Bath or Edinburgh and will report to the Head of Global Risk Data.


Responsibilities

  • Use Excel, Python and geospatial tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS for the delivery of updates and improvements to Maplecroft’s core risk data covering themes such as human rights, politics, economics, climate and the environment in line with client needs, market trends and regulatory developments.
  • Ensure the highest standards of data quality and integrity through rigorous validation, cross‑checking and data cleaning.
  • Work with the Product team to ensure clients are getting maximum value and utility from our core risk data and flagship data and analytics platform.
  • Work with the Technology team to transition the data update process to an automated approach.
  • Be a capable and trusted member of the Global Risk Data team that can independently engage with projects and deliver timely, accurate results.
  • Translate analytical findings into commercially relevant insights for clients in corporate, investor, and insurance sectors.
  • Support colleagues and clients with questions and analysis, in a clear and concise manner.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Technology, Sales, Marketing, Consulting and Research teams to support shared goals.

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in a subject with a significant quantitative element, e.g. economics, geography, political science, maths or similar.
  • 2+ years of work experience in a research, data‑focused or quantitative role (required).
  • Strong numeracy skills, including basic understanding of statistical principles (required).
  • Ability to think creatively, solve problems with tenacity and innovate in a data driven role (required).
  • Demonstrate a commitment to data quality and attention to detail (required).
  • Domain knowledge in human rights, politics, economics, climate, natural hazards, or environment‑related fields (desired).
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with the ability to work cross‑functionally with strong communication skills (required).
  • Confidence in working both independently, showing initiative, and as part of a team in pursuit of shared objectives (required).
  • Experience working in a client‑facing role with an understanding of commercial drivers and client needs (desired).
  • Technical skills: Advanced Excel skills (required), experience of using geospatial analysis tools e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS (desired), experience using Python for data analysis including relevant statistics and visualisation libraries (desired).
