Energy Aspects is currently seeking an exceptional data analyst to join our dynamic team and contribute to our China and wider Asia oil market coverage. Ideally, you have prior experience of maintaining fundamental balances, understanding trade flows and knowledge of key data sources – experience with China’s NBS and customs data would be of particular value. An understanding of, or previous experience in, a products or crude-pricing environment, would also be advantageous.
The successful candidate will join a highly respected global team and play a significant role in enhancing our Asia and China markets coverage. You will be responsible for contributing to various crude and oil products publications with a focus on China and Asia, through the preparation and comprehensive analysis of key national statistics, tradeflows and major trends, and integrating this with our wider global analysis to create forward-looking tradeable views.
This position will require flexibility and the drive to go beyond the core hours when needed, ensuring we all fulfil our goals. Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to our Asia and China market publications, through data collection, interpretation, modelling and views.
- Timely analysis of market sensitive fundamental data, such as China customs data for crude and products imports.
- Update regional and country level crude and products balances with latest data points and adjust forecasts accordingly.
- Help streamline data updating process, work with data team to automate data collection.
- Support with the maintenance of our refinery, steam cracker and PDH plant databases.
- Look to drive continuous improvement of our services.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Prior experience of working in an energy market environment, with solid understanding of physical energy market dynamics and tradeflows.
- Knowledge and previous experience of managing Chinese and Asian energy market data.
- Strong excel and or python skills.
- Prior experience with shipping tracking and energy market tradeflows (where does Asia import/export to).
- Good understanding of key energy infrastructure across Asia (refineries, import infrastructure, pipeline).
- The ability to meet deadlines and work effectively with others, including colleagues in different time zones.
- Attention to detail is a prerequisite for this role, particularly in handling data.
- Chinese language skills a strong benefit.
