Our client, a global engineering consultancy, is looking for a Chief Engineer – Mechanical Engineering, to join their team in Leamington Spa. This is a permanent position working 3 days on-site and 2 days at home.They specialise in rapid engineering and development of sustainable electrified propulsion systems and associated technologies, working directly and collaboratively with automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, aerospace and defence OEMs, Tier-1s and industry research bodies through their technical centres in North America, the U.K. and India.Position Description:You’ll be applying innovation and initiative daily to design and prototype propulsion and actuation systems for a new age of sustainable technology, within a refreshing and focused team. The systems they develop range from 1 Watt to mega-Watts and power vehicles and applications on land, in the air and on water and enabling their global customer base to do things that have not been done before.Key Responsibilities: The delivery of technical work packages and whole projects to as sold margins or betterPropose innovative R&D projects to the CTOChecking and approval of precision 2D manufacturing drawings to the relevant standardsBusiness development activities within the Mechanical Engineering function, able to propose appropriate scope of work, timing, resource and cost estimates inline with customer RFQsUtilising / overseeing state of the art simulation techniques and design tools to design, develop and prototype transmission, driveline and actuation systemsDeveloping new methods to solve industry problems, generating market leading solutions.Leading by example implementing DSD's technical processes to ensure it is executed to the highest quality when developing others in standards of drawings and technical reportingManaging multi person/cross functional projects to achieve budgeted margin and maintain an excellent relationship with customers, whilst being accountable to the operations board for their outcomeDeveloping and maintaining strategic relationships on behalf of the function with key account responsibilities to maintain and build revenue streams in your sectorTaking an active role in the professional development of others within the functionAn active stake holder in the Mechanical Engineering function’s quality system, generating and developing technical and procedural capabilities and ensuring their continuous developmentMarketing DSD through technical and commercial forums, conferences and white papersManaging challenging proposals and quotes that define the strategy of the project while mitigating technical and commercial risksYou will need: Extensive experience in developing different types of transmission systems in at least two main sectors: automotive, aerospace, off-highway, commercial vehicle, defence, clean energy and/or marineHigh levels of competency in design and CAE analysis of rotating systemsAdept in applying appropriate GD&T for prototype and production manufacturing processes for a wide range of components and materialsEvidence of successfully executing system integration projectsAbility to understand, collate and own the creation of compelling system propositions of engineering activities/scope outside the Mechanical Engineering domain e.g. hydraulics, development, test, controls electrified powertrain componentsSolved challenging problems by developing new capabilities or techniquesAn understanding of market trends and challenges, and applications of existing technology within the industryA track record of successfully applying non-standard technical solutions and coaching others to achieve the sameDeveloped a strong technical reputation and relationship with customers and suppliersMentored others in their technical development and the quality and value of their outputSuccessfully managed large, multi-person and multi-discipline projects through their complete development cycleHigh level of expertise or appreciation in some of the key software packages within drivetrain engineering (SMT MASTA, Romax, Creo, UGNX, Catia, Amesim, Recurdyn, Matlab, Altair and Ansys packages)Generated and managed commercial opportunities to a successful conclusionAwareness of the commercial approach of a consultancy business will be advantageous
