Overview: We are currently looking for anAssociate Editorial Manager, on a temporary basis for a period of12 months. This is a part time position of 17.5 hours per week. Youwill contribute to the development of our journals, as an AssociateEditorial Manager on the Materials and Nano team, working on asubset of the journals Materials Horizons, Nanoscale Horizons,Journals of Materials Chemistry A, B, & C and Nanoscale.  At the Royal Society of Chemistry, we publish newresearch that is a catalyst for the chemistry that enriches ourworld. If you need flexible workingarrangements, please outline this in yourapplication.  Your responsibilities will focuson: Managing a team of Publishing Editors, Journals (ca 3direct reports) to deliver KPIs in line with the departmental andjournal strategies, leading and motivating the team to deliverexcellent customer service.Managing the team’s workflow frommanuscript submission to final decision and inputting into themanagement of the journal’s workflow from acceptance to finalpublication, ensuring that best practice and a standardisedworkflow is followed. Working closely with the Editorial Manager toensure that submitted articles are reviewed to the journal’sstandards and quality and ensure consistency across the journalteams.Managing the support for the manuscript processing ofexternal Associate Editors as required. To monitor theirperformance and advise the Editorial Manager and Executive Editorof any performance issues.Carrying out the assessment and peerreview of articles submitted for publication to agreed standards isan expectation of this role; handling appeals and ethical casesthat arise through the peer review process as required.Advisingauthors and referees of Royal Society of Chemistry policy relatingto publication and ethical issues, ensuring that the team are awareof publication and ethical issues.Maximising transfers betweenjournals in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s portfolio What weare looking for:A degree in science is essential.Experience of STMpublishing is essential.A willingness to lead and manage a team,previous experience would be advantageous.Ability to train andmotivate people effectively Good organisational and time-managementskills, together with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlinesAproactive approach to problem solving.Good communication skills ininteracting with internal and external contacts.Proven ability towork well as part of a team. At the RSC, we recognise thebenefits of a diverse workforce and welcome applicants from a rangeof backgrounds to apply.
