Senior LLM Developer - Legal AI

About the Role

My client is seeking a Senior LLM Developer to join their pioneering legal AI team, where cutting-edge technology meets the centuries-old framework of British jurisprudence. You'll architect and deploy sophisticated language models that transform how legal professionals interact with case law, contracts, and regulatory compliance.

What makes them different?

Rather than chasing the latest AI trends, they focus on solving real legal challenges. Their developers work directly with QCs, solicitors, and compliance teams to understand nuanced legal reasoning. You'll spend your mornings fine-tuning transformer architectures and your afternoons collaborating with legal experts to understand precedent structures and reasoning patterns. They're building AI that doesn't just process legal text, it understands the logical frameworks that underpin legal argument.

Naturally, over the course of the role you'll become even more familiar with the British Legal System and its nuances, its complex but hopefully a welcome challenge to the developer looking to make sense of this in an AI perspective.

What You'll Build:

  • Domain-specific LLMs trained on legal corpora with sophisticated RAG architectures
  • Multi-modal systems processing legal documents, court transcripts, and regulatory filings
  • Federated learning systems respecting client confidentiality and jurisdictional boundaries
  • Real-time legal research tools with explainable AI and citation verification
  • Compliance monitoring systems with natural language policy interpretation

Core LLM Experience:

  • Advanced proficiency in transformer architectures (GPT, BERT, LLaMA)
  • Experience with fine-tuning, RLHF, and constitutional AI techniques
  • Deep understanding of attention mechanisms, tokenization strategies, and model optimisation
  • Hands-on experience with distributed training frameworks (DeepSpeed, FairScale)
  • Minimum 2+ years developing AI solutions specifically for legal applications
  • Experience with legal document processing, case law analysis, or regulatory compliance systems
  • Understanding of legal taxonomy, citation networks, and jurisdictional hierarchies
  • Knowledge of legal NLP challenges including entity recognition in legal text

Requirements;

  • 6-8 years overall AI/ML experience with 2+ years in legal AI
  • Track record of deploying production LLM systems at scale
  • Experience with model governance, bias detection, and AI safety protocols
  • Strong understanding of legal ethics around AI deployment

Technical Stack:

  • Cloud:AWS (SageMaker, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS/EKS)
  • ML Frameworks:PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain
  • Monitoring:MLflow, Weights & Biases, CloudWatch
  • Languages:Python, SQL

What My Client Offers:

  • £100,000 - £115,000 base salary plus equity within the firm
  • Hybrid working with flexible hours (core hours 10 - 15)
  • Direct access to legal experts and cutting-edge case studies
  • Comprehensive training/certification budget

Unfortunately this role cannot offer visa sponsorship now or in the future. Candidates must be able to commute to London twice weekly to be considered.
