Job Description

Job Title:      Machine Learning Consultant - Experienced

Location:      Cambridge, United Kingdom

Salary:           Competitive

Contract:      Permanent

Breakthrough technology is vital for strengthening the UK’s Defence and Homeland Security. As a Machine Learning Consultant at Awerian, you will be at the forefront of this innovation race to defend and protect the UK from the latest technological and cyber threats.

Your work will have a real-world impact. You will explore and develop cutting-edge technologies by working within multi-disciplinary teams of highly educated and skilled scientists and engineers.

As a Machine Learning Consultant you will use your curiosity, creativity, and rigour to tackle diverse, real-world challenges which are typically at the forefront of emerging AI/ML technologies. You will use your experience to design and deploy systems that apply machine learning to a broad range of tasks, often in novel settings, pulling together third-party components and building elements yourself. You will research the fundamentals of models, their architectures and each stage of the machine learning pipeline. It’s a fantastically challenging, varied, and agile role.

Awerian’s wide variety of intriguing projects often bring together aspects of science, engineering and machine learning. Projects span proof-of-concepts through to working prototypes, providing both intellectual and practical challenges. The projects will test your ability to solve problems across the machine learning development cycle: ideation; data I/O, cleaning and preparation; rapid code prototyping and feasibility testing; designing, refining, and evaluating models; and deploying and packaging code into client-ready demonstrators and products. The sense of job satisfaction will be tangible as you collaborate across disciplines and stretch your knowledge and capabilities into new areas of pioneering research and development.

Requirements

You will hold an undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in a relevant subject including Physics, Maths, Engineering, Computer Science, etc. Graduate degrees with demonstrable research experience or equivalent research and development experience are highly desirable. You will bring a rigorous scientific approach, independent mindset, and broad interest in developments across the machine learning field.

Key technical skills of interest include:

  • Very strong foundation in Python.
  • Hands-on experience with current frameworks such as Tensorflow, PyTorch and JAX.
  • Experience of building machine learning solutions for novel problems and/or resource-constrained situations and/or current edge-processing platforms.
  • Experience of a broad range of machine learning techniques (e.g. computer vision, audio reconstruction, generative models) and/or the ability to adapt to new domains rapidly.
  • Familiarity with GPU hardware and their associated languages (e.g. CUDA).

Ideally you will have notable experience in two or more of the above areas. Experience of, or skills required for, client-facing (or similar) roles are highly desirable. We are keen to hear from exceptional applicants with experience in any sector.

Why Awerian?
