This is a greenfield opportunity to help shape the future of data engineering in a complex, large-scale environment.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in the design, build, and implementation of a new enterprise data platform. The business is currently migrating to AWS, and you will lead the development of a new data lake and associated pipelines, ensuring robust, scalable, and secure data solutions are delivered.

You will work closely with architects, analysts, and data scientists, guiding best practices, mentoring engineers, and embedding a modern data engineering culture within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of the business’s greenfield AWS data platform.
  • Build and optimise scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and manage large datasets.
  • Architect and develop a new data lake to enable advanced analytics and reporting.
  • Define and implement data engineering best practices, ensuring quality, security, and governance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into data solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, supporting their technical growth.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, frameworks, and processes to enhance the data ecosystem.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Senior/Lead Data Engineer in a large-scale environment.
  • Strong expertise with AWS data services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, Athena, EMR).
  • Experience designing and building data lakes and modern data platforms.
  • Proficiency with Python, SQL, and data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt).
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, and distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of data security, governance, and compliance best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
