About Navys

At Navys, we are building the most advanced funds lawyer, ever.

Navys is transforming the fund formation process by combining deep legal expertise with AI. This isn’t another contract review or document summarizer: we are creating the Legal Operating System for funds.

Navys fuses internal legal precision and external regulatory insight into a living system that learns, reasons, and scales with fund professionals.

We are seeking an ambitiousData Scientistto join our team on a full-time basis. This is a unique chance to work alongside experienced private funds lawyers, AI engineers, and innovators in a tech-forward environment. Navys is not just a better tool - it’s a different model of how legal software should be built. You’ll be working on a product that completely reshapes the legal industry.

As our first or one of our first data science hires, you’ll play a foundational role inbuilding AI-driven legal intelligence systems, from data ingestion and modelling through to experimentation and deployment. You’ll work closely with engineering, product, and legal teams to design models and pipelines that power our platform.

What you’ll own (first 12 months)

  • Design, train, and evaluate machine learning models for legal and regulatory intelligence.
  • Build robust data pipelines for ingesting, cleaning, and structuring complex legal data.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to integrate models into production systems.
  • Partner with legal experts to translate domain knowledge into data features and model architectures.
  • Develop and maintain model monitoring, evaluation, and retraining workflows.
  • Contribute to the design of our AI/ML stack and establish best practices for data science across the company.

Must-have technical foundations

  • Strong proficiency inPythonfor data science and machine learning.
  • Experience withNLP, large language models, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Proven track record of building and deploying ML models into production.
  • Solid understanding of data preprocessing, feature engineering, and evaluation metrics.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based ML services (Azure preferred; AWS acceptable).
  • Experience working with APIs, databases, and structured/unstructured datasets.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment and a go-getter attitude.

Nice-to-have extras

  • Experience with ML frameworks such asPyTorch,TensorFlow, orscikit-learn.
  • Knowledge of Azure AI services (e.g., Azure Machine Learning, Cognitive Search).
  • Background in legal tech, fintech, or another highly regulated domain.
  • Familiarity with MLOps tools (e.g., MLflow, Weights & Biases, Kubeflow).
  • Understanding of vector databases and semantic search.
  • Experience with data visualisation libraries (e.g., Plotly, D3.js).

You’ll thrive here if

  • You are talented, focused, and aligned with our mission - we are building a complex product with innovative technology, so we need driven and dynamic candidates who can rise to the challenge.
  • You take ownership of problems and run with them—figuring things out with limited direction when needed.
  • You are a strong communicator who gets your point across clearly, and you’re not afraid to speak up when something needs addressing.
  • You are independent, flexible, and prepared to take on responsibility early on.
  • You are prepared to be accountable for—and proud of—the work you do and your contributions to the team.

What we offer

  • Work with a veteran team of ex-employees of leading law firms, tech companies, and AI labs.
  • Direct mentorship from senior engineers, private funds lawyers, and product leaders.
  • 25 days holiday.
  • Cycle2Work and Electric Car Schemes.
  • Participation in the company’s employee share options scheme (subject to tenure and performance).
  • Health, fitness, and gift card discounts.
  • Annual Team Trip – 2026 is skiing in the Swiss Alps.
  • A rare opportunity todesign the AI models and data strategyof a transformative legal platform from day one.

Top 10 Skills in Machine Learning According to LinkedIn & Indeed Job Postings

Machine learning (ML) is at the forefront of innovation, powering systems in finance, healthcare, retail, logistics, and beyond in the UK. As organisations leverage ML for predictive analytics, automation, and intelligent systems, demand for skilled practitioners continues to grow. So, which skills are most in demand? Drawing on insights from LinkedIn and Indeed, this article outlines the Top 10 machine learning skills UK employers are looking for in 2025. You'll learn how to demonstrate these capabilities through your CV, interviews, and real-world projects.

The Future of Machine Learning Jobs: Careers That Don’t Exist Yet

Machine learning (ML) has become one of the most powerful forces reshaping the modern world. From voice assistants and recommendation engines to fraud detection and medical imaging, it underpins countless applications. ML is no longer confined to research labs—it powers business models, public services, and consumer technologies across the globe. In the UK, demand for machine learning professionals has risen dramatically. Organisations in finance, retail, healthcare, and defence are embedding ML into their operations. Start-ups in Cambridge, London, and Edinburgh are pioneering innovations, while government-backed initiatives aim to position the UK as a global AI leader. Salaries for ML engineers and researchers are among the highest in the tech sector. Yet despite its current importance, machine learning is only at the beginning of its journey. Advances in generative AI, quantum computing, robotics, and ethical governance will reshape the profession. Many of the most vital machine learning jobs of the next two decades don’t exist today. This article explores why new careers will emerge, the roles likely to appear, how today’s roles will evolve, why the UK is well positioned, and how professionals can prepare now.

Seasonal Hiring Peaks for Machine Learning Jobs: The Best Months to Apply & Why

The UK's machine learning sector has evolved into one of Europe's most intellectually stimulating and financially rewarding technology markets, with roles spanning from junior ML engineers to principal machine learning scientists and heads of artificial intelligence research. With machine learning positions commanding salaries from £32,000 for graduate ML engineers to £160,000+ for senior principal scientists, understanding when organisations actively recruit can dramatically accelerate your career progression in this pioneering and rapidly evolving field. Unlike traditional software engineering roles, machine learning hiring follows distinct patterns influenced by AI research cycles, model development timelines, and algorithmic innovation schedules. The sector's unique combination of mathematical rigour, computational complexity, and real-world application requirements creates predictable hiring windows that strategic professionals can leverage to advance their careers in developing tomorrow's intelligent systems. This comprehensive guide explores the optimal timing for machine learning job applications in the UK, examining how enterprise AI strategies, academic research cycles, and deep learning initiatives influence recruitment patterns, and why strategic timing can determine whether you join a groundbreaking AI research team or miss the opportunity to develop the next generation of machine learning algorithms.
