We're looking for a dynamicApplied Data Science Managerto join the Tesco UK&I Applied Data Science team. You will be working on extending and improving dunnhumby's promotional planning propositions and implementing these with Tesco UK. This is an exciting opportunity that will require you to work closely with the Tesco P&P team and with dunnhumby RDS, P&P Consulting and Product teams to deliver scalable results at pace.

What you'll be working on

  • Manage and lead a team of Data Scientists and take accountability for quality and timeliness of science deliverables to the client.
  • Work with the Research Data Science team to design science pipelines to meet new promo planning requirements.
  • Participate in client meetings, as required, to present methodology and solutions, demonstrating effective story telling techniques that distil complex problems into compelling insights to influence client decision making.
  • Help the team to build strong relationships with internal contacts & clients to ensure full understanding of client strategy, challenges and agreed measures of success for the project.
  • Deploy data science algorithms and market products on chosen tech stack for efficient and cost-effective delivery.
  • Work closely with the global products team to provide market feedback for enhancing an existing product offering or augmenting the catalogue with a market-based product that can become global offering.
  • Ensure the team are following dunnhumby Quality Assurance processes, ways of working and coding standards.
  • Promote a culture of re-use of dunnhumby science, modules and code lines over re-invention, and in turn, package up any new solutions for re-use globally if possible.
  • Hire, mentor, motivate and retain a strong team of applied data scientists who live the dunnhumby values.
  • Manage risk effectively, provide visible and consistent leadership on Values and Code of Business Conduct and act where you see issues. Protect our team by ensuring they have the skills and training needed.

What we expect from you

  • Degree in Statistics, Maths, Physics, Economics or similar field
  • Analytical Techniques and Technology
  • Logical thinking and problem solving
  • Strong communication skills
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Experience with and passion for connecting your work directly to the customer experience, making a real and tangible impact
  • Statistical Modelling and experience of applying data science into client problems.
